Research by GIER Affiliates inspires Artists in Residence

By Virginia Capmourteres

Soft Turns, a collaborative effort of Sarah Jane Gorlitz and Wojciech Olejnik, were artists in residence at the School of Environmental Sciences (SES) from January 2017 until December 2019. Their art is inspired in research conducted at the school, including research by GIER Affiliates Jon Warland, Mike Dixon, and Youbin Zheng.

Julie RenĂ© de Cotret, current Artistic Director/Curator of the Artist Residency Program at SES, explains that Soft Turns is presenting their exhibition “the seeds float away” at the Boarding House Gallery, hosted by the School of Fine Art and Music. “the seeds float away” is inspired in research on the use of controlled environment chambers, artificial soil substrates, agrogeology, space agriculture and, more broadly, plant-human interactions.

You can visit the exhibition at the Boarding House Gallery (6 Dublin St S., Guelph) from October 15th to November 12th. The Gallery is open Thursdays and Fridays from 12 to 5 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, part of the exhibition is also available online.
