How To Measure Microclimate

My students and I measure microclimate. We look under trees and heather and grass and willow and blueberries to see where forests are expanding, and how vegetation and soil and rocks affect temperature and soil moisture at really small scales. How is climate change going to affect the distribution of trees? We are constantly surprised by what we find. It gives me a reason to keep going back to mountains, savannahs, bogs, and rocky shores, and to explore the beautiful world we live in. I am eternally grateful.
