GIER Officer

GIER has hired a Communications, Research Engagement, and Administration Officer! Please help us welcome Dr. Virginia Capmourteres, who will be serving as an advisor to the Executive Director on operational decision-making associated with both the administrative and communication sides of the GIER. Virginia will be responsible for ensuring that administration, research engagement and communication outcomes are achieved in accordance with the Institute’s projected plans, thus supporting university-wide interdisciplinary research projects in emerging fields of environmental inquiry.

Virginia is an ecologist by training and has had ample experience working with interdisciplinary research teams and a variety of stakeholders and industries (e.g. agri-food, tourism, forestry, oil, and hydropower sectors) to bring innovative solutions to complex environmental issues. Virginia has provided key administrative support to CFREF “Food from Thought” grants and is a former member of the Environmental Advisory Committee of the City of Guelph. Holder of a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences, Virginia enjoys bellydancing, playing drums, and visiting natural areas.
